How to Post Comments The Right Way
Taking the opportunity to leave comments if you can while visiting other websites should be a part of your link building process. Although your PageRank might not be affected because most websites are using the “nofollow” attribute, it is still a very important factor in your link building campaign. Not only does it make it worthwhile in giving your opinion, views or arguments, it also gives exposure and traffic to your website from webmasters and readers. After all, link building is all about traffic, so if you could get a visitor or two, then your link has served its purpose well. Listed below are some important things you should always keep in mind when you leave comments.
Don’t Be Shy, Express Your Yourself Openly
That’s it, throw away your shyness, in the internet no one knows you and the things that you say will be the factors that will reflect on who you are. Did the article you read interest you, did it arouse any objection, or did you feel same way about the author and want to emphasize some points? Well, write about what you felt, positively or negatively. Be open even if you disagree in some aspects, write them down in a very nice and constructive way. Not all articles written are correct, some are based on opinion and some may be offensive and obtrusive. Posting a comment is your chance to voice out to the author your arguments, corrections, agreements, disagreements and all other things you might want to express.
Use Your Name, Don’t Use Keywords
Using keywords instead of a name is not ethical, this is an SEO tactic. When search engines crawl the pages of your site, they index the contents including comments and this is where those clever keywords will come into play. Try to avoid using keywords, for the experienced webmasters, they know this is a form of spam and will delete your entry as soon as they don’t see your name. And it’s pretty obvious, the field says “name” not bunch of meaningless keywords (lol).
Post Something Related and Relevant
The heading is self-explanatory, always stay on topic. Don’t be considered a spammer and if you are unfortunate your URL and IP Address might be reported and get banned in the community. So please don’t comment just for the sake of commenting. If you can’t find the right words to say just leave peacefully or bookmark that site and get back to it when your mind is in pretty good shape.
Post Comments to Website Similar to Yours
You can comment on any website that interests you, this will give you direct referral traffic and exposure to your website but we suggest taking the advantages of commenting to websites similar to yours. One of the major advantages of doing this, is a way for you to get loyal readers and subscribers because you share one thing in common. If web owners and readers got interested in the contents of your site after checking it, trust me they will come back to you and might even subscribe to your feed. And if you struck a “dofollow” blog, search engines give more favor to backlinks coming from sites similar to yours.
As a webmaster, before I approve a comment, I check first the URL posted. Sometimes this can become a deciding factor for me if the comment is a spam or not. If the site is not in any way related to mine and the comment posted is vague, sometimes I delete it and consider it a spam. If you’re afraid to be accused as a spammer just because your website is entirely different from the one you are commenting and would like to voice out something, write a good relevant comment or don’t leave your link behind.
Ask a Question
Asking a question is a good way to arouse the curiosity and interest of others and may lead to a good conversation. You may want to emphasize certain points, topics or you just need plainly to clarify some things. If you ask a question and need an answer, subscribe to the thread or you may come back for it later. If no reply has been made, you may follow it up or just leave peacefully. You may also ask a question and already know the answer if you think it’s going to be beneficial to the community. But if you are just asking for the sake of leaving a comment, that is not productive.
Check and Proof Read Before Submitting Your Comments
Whenever I read comments being posted in other websites, you can easily spot the one who is in a hurry and trying to go away as swiftly as he/she could. And all that matters for that reader is to post a comment and leave a link behind. Like I mentioned above, your writing will reflect your personality, so check and double check your comment before submitting it. Remember, once this is approved, editing it on your side can no longer be made, you have to write to the webmaster. Bear in mind that you are not writing an article, you are just writing a simple and short message so save yourself this trouble by submitting a good written comment. Although mistakes are unavoidable, let’s try to minimize it.
